The FriYAY Series

dogs, Davis & our nephew Jackson, & the last week of school

We did it y’all – another week in the books! This week was hectic for our family. We watched our nephew with Davis on Monday since it was a holiday and schools/day care were closed. Tuesday was a vet appointment/baseball game/grocery night, Wednesday night was a senior event at school in the evening, and last night was supposed to be another baseball game, but it was canceled because of rain! It’s also the last week of school for us before exams, and we are moving to our brand new school building in the fall so everything has to be packed up. I’m looking forward to a weekend to relax and spend time as a family without any major plans! As usual, I’ll probably spend Saturday morning cleaning the house vigorously because it’s therapeutic for me, and usually by Saturday the dog hair tumbleweeds are rolling across the dirty dog paw floors, and it has begun to offend me personally.

Some things I’ve got my eye on this week: Old Navy is killing it with their dress game this season! Loving this sleeveless jersey knit swing dress, this striped linen blend swing dress (this is not great for my body shape but I LOVE IT), and this puff sleeve tiered floral midi dress with smocking. One of my teacher friends was wearing this easy ruffle midi dress at our senior event this week and I love the burnt orange color! For a more formal event or situation, I love this black ruffled wrap dress with a tie (also elastic waist – huge win), and this same dress in the orange clip dot is SO pretty. Besides dresses, I’m constantly looking for a romper or jumpsuit that I would feel comfortable and confident in, and it’s a never-ending quest, BUT I love the look of this cozy tie-dye romper with a bit of a longer short on it. I may order it and end up returning it because I’m so picky, but it looks promising! I have no partnership with Old Navy, but I do love their dresses and the way they fit me!

Besides looking at clothes and putting them into my online shopping cart and leaving them there to expire, I should also receive Davis’ Baby Bum mineral sunscreen spray tonight! I’m trying the spray because they were out of the lotion at my local target and I figured a spray would be good to have, too – and then they were out of that too and had to ship it to me anyway, haha! So I’ll report back on how I like it for him.

I’ve been meaning to share my sister in law’s Etsy shop! She and her mom make handmade soaps, bath products, and body/skin care products. Perfect for gift giving or pampering yourself! I always like to support family and friends when I can!

I’m following along with Kate Bryan’s 10 days of giveaways and you should, too! She has loaded up a bunch of goodies to give away to her followers since she has been doing this for ten years. Really cool! She’s doing them in her instagram stories each day and all you have to do is swipe to the right to enter! I actually got the chance to intern for Kate a few years ago, and it was so much fun for me. I’ve been following her for a LONG time.

In other instagram news (I promise I’m not a celebrity gossip column), I am also intrigued by Jenn Todryk’s hunt for the perfect mascara. She’s doing a roundup and trying a ton of different mascaras to find one that doesn’t bleed onto her skin under her bottom lashes. This is a problem I always have too, and I just kind of deal with it and check throughout the day – so I am interested to see what she finds! Here’s her instagram link if you don’t follow her already. Her lashes are always epic so I might try her favorite mascara next (but it still makes her bottom lashes smudge).

these are the mascaras she’s trying!

I’m actually very excited to start up a regular exercise situation for myself this summer! I know it sounds like an excuse, but it has been hard for me to get myself together during the school year because we wake up so early, and with my schedule picking up Davis in the afternoon, the most I can usually do is take a big walk with him! So hopefully this summer I can get up, exercise, and then have my day ahead of me! I’m really loving this cup I posted earlier this week and obviously if I have a pretty water bottle, I’ll have a better workout, right? That’s how it works? I want to get back to doing some yoga regularly as well as lifting weights and doing some high intensity workouts, which I typically enjoy.

Whether you’re vigorously cleaning your house, relaxing, traveling, or spending time with those you love, I hope everyone’s weekend is one for the books. Next week I have a post coming from my friend Lindsey who is a licensed esthetician to talk about all things skin!

So proud of our teenagers who have made big moves to create positive impacts in their school, community, and state. One of the best things about teaching is getting to see the excitement and self confidence of young people as they grow, and to share in their pride for all their hard work 🎉 #cte #fccla #familyandconsumersciences
